Well, my mood is much improved by the sweet comments from you people, and I was encouraged to finish the socks.
And I still loathe them. Despise them and detest them. Maybe even resent them somewhat. In fact I'm a little surprised by the vehemence of my reaction to them.
1. They're not long enough, admittedly I had a little wool left over and could probably have made them a couple of centimetres longer. That wouldn't have stopped them from being ugly as hell.
2. All of the vibrant pink ended up in the left sock. To me it looks like it's two different balls which came from different dye lots, when in fact it's one hank divided in two.
3. The hank looked so promising. I expected to knit up more like the heel:
Yes, I will wear them around the house. Grudgingly. Because I am too chronologically parsimonious not to, after spending all that time on them (world's slowest knitter here). Yes, I learned about the Figure 8 toe cast on, the Afterthought Heel and the Three Needle Cast off. Hooray, long live learning and new experiences, blah blah blah grumble mutter [insert expletive of choice]. Now give me some pretty socks. Let's get some Lana Grossa on the pointy sticks and see if we can't improve on this. It can't be hard.
Sorry to hear you have not developed a great love for the socks, especially as you put so much work into making them. I've missed the blog whilst you have been ill. Hope you are feeling much better now. Good luck for a chirpy March.

Well, I like them! They're cool and they look really warm and cozy. Plus, you knit them yourself (a rare find here!)

I have a lot of un-knit handdyed yarn for the same reason -- it is so pretty in the skein, but sometimes the knitted product disappoints.
