I am accepting that today is going to be a strange day where positions change and instead of forging ahead with things in my typical Aries fashion, there is going to be more deliberation, contemplation, planning and dodging side to side. In an almost Cancerian manner.
I believe I may have a fairy godfather who is helping on the flat side. No more news than that at the moment but I feel I have someone on my side now. It is very reassuring, as were all your good luck comments, thank you folks.
I found out that the NYC hotel that XH has booked for me (I uncharacteristically demanded a room for two nights using his hotel reward points - people, he owes me) is not the most salubrious, however it is around the corner from my fave New York bagel place. Hooray.
Purl keeps drawing me in. Apart from being fiendishly excited about visiting the shops, especially as Denise is coming up for the day and we'll be going there together, I have also found out from Purl's blog that the Gee's Bend Quilting exhibition opens in Baltimore on the weekend that I'm visiting. Denise says we can add it to our itinerary, double hooray!
Yesterday I bought a couple of new patterns, determined to use the fabrics in my stash, mainly Liberty prints, and I would like to try making some shirts or blouses. I bought the Wendy pattern and I'm now dismayed to find that it gives measurements for A and B cups. Having been measured recently, I have found that I'm waaaaay further up the alphabet, and while I'm not complaining, I know lots of you have made this pattern. Do you think it would be possible to adjust by um, five cup sizes? Or should I just go with another pattern?
Hi Gail,
How are you doing? You know that top I was wearing at the meetup? As you know, that was a built by Wendy Pattern as well, and although, I'm only a couple of letters further up the alphabet, I also find it a bit tight over the bust. Next time I use it, I'm going to add a bit extra to the side seam from the armhole into nothing at the waist. Hope that helps? I don't think you need to buy a new pattern if the rest of the measurements are ok. They must be very flat chested in NY! You'll have to do some research and confirm this! When are you heading there? Can I ask a favour? My mate went recently and forgot to get me one of those touristy 'I heart NY' T-shirts, could you grab me a white or black one? Naturally I'll give you the squids (or I even have some dollars lurking around, or I could pay you in products!

Re the 'boob dilemma' I find that electrician's tape/gaffer tape is quite useful in such situations. Trust me - I'm FF... ;-)

aaahhh, this is a problem i'm quite familiar with. all commercial patterns are sized more or less to a b cup. crazy. on simplicity's website there is a "fit guide" which gives pdf. instructions for cup adjustments... you may not have to go up five whole cups, but you could always do the pattern adjustment and pin the pattern up to your lovely dressform, and see what you've got :)

There is a very clever trick to increase the bust size - bit fiddly but not impossible. I'll try and find a copy of a magazine with it, or email you instructions. I always have to do this!
Also worth making a toile out of an old sheet to test it.

You LuckyDuck to go to NYC. You know we'll be expecting a full report when you return. And I second Jennifer's TinselTrading recommendation -- I've never been there, but it's at the top of my list when I do go -- hopefully in the fall!

Oh to have such a pressing problem. I am currently losing a little bit of weight and naturally it is all coming off the very small boobs I have and not off the large lovehandles. Isn't it always the way?! As a watcher rather than a doer on the tailoring (so far) I have absolutely no words of wisdom at all but do wish you lots of luck!

I hope everything works out well with your flat and you are soon able to paint your walls a beautiful shade of hen's egg blue! Good luck with the shirt shaping - I have a similar "problem" and have all but given up hope of making anything that fits well - I'll be interested to hear how you get on ...
