Fibre tales

It turns out that I'll never be Cinderella, or Spinderella.  Mind you, I wasn't Sleeping Beauty either... Nancy of the Handweavers' Studio and Gallery in Walthamstow said thanks to us all at the end of the Introduction to Spinning class for not falling asleep which was somewhat bemusing.  She's a complete character and also a patient teacher, even if most of her considered wisdom didn't sink in for me. But lots of fun nevertheless.  No need to think about adding spinning to this craft ho's repertoire though I did come away with some roving for a project I've been thinking about for a while...

The raw material.  Soft, smelly and full of potential.

Tying plied yarn on the niddy-noddy.

Stinky fleece.  Slightly less smelly and noticeably brighter yarn.

That picture looks like Nancy is about to grope me. I'm still trying to get the sheepy smell out of my baby skein!

sounds fun! I learnt to spin at school. Handy life skill. you'll get there with practice I'm sure!

Ha! Nancy looks like just the type of person you'd expect to teach a (non-gym) spinning class! Looks fun, but Rowan does it so well already ;) Although I think I'm biased as being from Lancashire, every school trip was to a sodding wool or texiles mill.

If only I'd known: have been meaning to do this course since I got my wheel for Christmas 2006, but am afraid of being the spinning equivalent of the uncoordinated one at the back of the aerobics class. I will brace myself and sign up....

looks like a lot of fun - I'd have had a hard time not leaving with a truck load of all that kaleidescopic yarn - what a fab selection!

I learned to spin there too! It was so much fun. The day I give up work to live off my "investment fund" (who knew an ISA could be that profitable), I'm so getting a spinning wheel.
